LAGOS LEGISLATORS FORUM WADES INTO CRISIS ROCKING NINTH ASSEMBLY

The Lagos Legislators Forum, which is the official body of all former lawmakers of the State House of Assembly has expressed concern over the crisis rocking the legislative house.

According to a statement by the Spokesman of the Forum, Hon. Ahmed Ipoola Omisore, the body at its monthly meeting, viewed with concern the development and urged the parties involved to settle the matter amicably in the best interest of good governance in the state.

The Lagos Legislators Forum further requested that the Speaker, Chief Mudasiru Obasa, should ensure that peace reigns, so as to sustain the standards of diligence and good image that the State legislature is noted for since the creation of the state.

It added that the Forum under the leadership of the Speaker of the Third Assembly, Alhaji Rasheed Fashina, has proposed a visit to the Chambers, so as to further intervene in the matter.

On the ninth of this month, the Lagos State Assembly suspended Mr Olanrewaju Oshun representing Lagos Mainland Constituency 2 and Mr Raheem Adewale representing Ibeju Lekki constituency 2 indefinitely for alleged gross misconduct, insubordination and actions capable of tarnishing the image of the House.

The Speaker of the House, Chief Mudashiru Obasa personally moved the motion suspending the lawmakers.

Similarly, the Chief Whip of the House, Mr Rotimi Abiru and the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Olumuyiwa Jimoh were removed as principal officers.

Their removal followed the submission of a letter signed by twenty-six of the forty lawmakers seeking a change of leadership and read during plenary by the Clerk of the House, Mr Azeez Sanni.

Less than twenty – four hours, the lawmakers after plenary elected Mr. Noheem Adams from Eti-Osa constituency one as the new Deputy Majority Leader while Mrs. Mojisola Merandah representing Apapa constituency one was elected as the new Chief Whip.

In a statement days after, the Speaker, Chief Obasa, said the removal of two principal officers and the suspension of two others was a measure to ensure that the legislature remains strengthened and its sanctity maintained.
