The Cross River State Government has pledged full implementation of all national health policies, especially those aimed at ending mother and child mortality.
Governor Ben Ayade, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara Esu, gave the assurance at the opening ceremony of the 2020 National Immunisation Plus Days Exercise and the commissioning of an ultra-modern comprehensive health facility at Uchu Yache in Yala Council Area of the state.
He said the primary duty of any government was to provide basic amenities to the citizens, which the Ayade-led administration has ensured through the provision of a comprehensive healthcare facility in Yala.
Esu, who urged members of the community to make maximum use of the facility, commended the efforts of all stakeholders through the acquisition of land to the equipping of the facility.
While congratulations the Yache people, he assured that there would be more development in that part of the state, adding, “You have raised noble men who have contributed to the development of our state, and it is on this note that Governor Ayade chose the community for the establishment of Cross River’s most sophisticated and comprehensive healthcare facility.”
While urging members of the community to make maximum use of the health facility, Director General, Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Janet Ekpenyong, thanked the governor for making healthcare easily accessible to the people, especially those in difficult terrains.
Ekpenyong explained that with the high mother and child mortality rate in the state, it became imperative to established health facilities in rural areas.
“I appreciate members of this community for their support and a huge turn out for the commissioning of the ultra-modern and Comprehensive Healthcare Facility. As you all know, Governor Ayade has invested hugely in this project and he is championing the actualisation of Universal Health coverage through interventions such as this through the social health scheme christened “Ayade Care” which enrollment will soon commence in the 18 council areas,” she stated.
Speaking, State commissioner for Health, Dr. Betta Edu, commended members of the community for their cooperation throughout the construction phase and urged them to maintain the facility to attract other interventions to the area.
On his part, Chairman of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (UBEB), Dr. Stephen Odey, who spoke on behalf of the community, expressed gratitude to the governor for his interventions in the state’s health and education sectors.
