Zamfara earmarks N9b for science schools, compensation, Kebbi donates N30m to legion

The Zamfara State government has earmarked N7 billion for renovation of its science schools and training of science teachers and N2 billion to compensate those whose lands were acquired for various projects.

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Bilyaminu Shinkafi, told reporters in Gusau that the fund would be used for total renovation and expansion of science and technical schools across the state.

After defending his ministry’s budget at the House of Assembly, Shinkafi said the government was determined to transform science and technology in the state.

“In the 2020 budget, we propose to carry out various programmes to enhance science and technology development in the state.

“We are going to give priority to training and retraining of our staff, especially teachers in science and technical secondary schools,” he said.

Also, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Land and Survey, Abubakar Musa, told newsmen that the government had taken over some lands for multi-billion naira projects in 2020.

He listed the projects as the new Government House, airport and stadium.

“We also plan to build three zonal offices in Talata-Mafara, Kaura-Namoda and Gummi councils,” he added.

In another vein, Kebbi State Governor Abubakar Bagudu has donated N30 million to the state’s branch of Nigerian Legion as part of activities to mark the 2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

Bagudu, who announced the donation at Government House, Birnin Kebbi, said in view of the sacrifice made by the legionnaires in protecting the country, they deserved to be regarded in high esteem.

He acknowledged that the legion in Kebbi had provided good leadership and partnership with the state government and prayed for the fallen heroes.

“Kebbi is indebted to security agencies and the legionnaires. We are thankful to what they are doing. We will continue to partner with them,” he said.

Bagudu said the legionnaires could play vital role in community policing because of their experience and capability, while directing all permanent secretaries and heads of Ministries, departments and Agencies (MDAs) to look at areas of collaboration at different levels.

Earlier, the chairman of Kebbi branch of Nigerian Legion, Umar Garba, thanked the governor for his support and appealed to the state government to give the association land to build its secretariat.
