Niger State government moves to address child, maternal mortality

Niger State Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has said that the state is revamping and repositioning 247 primary health facilities in the state to make primary healthcare accessible and affordable in the rural areas.

He disclosed that the state has developed a strategic framework for implementation of a functional and quality primary healthcare system to tackle child and maternal mortality and reduce out of pocket spending for health care services.

He stated this at a two-day retreat for members of the state’s board of Primary Health Care Development Agency in Abuja yesterday in Abuja.

Bello, who described functional primary healthcare as critical to the attainment of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC), noted that the state has over 1,400 primary healthcare facilities, but less than 20 per cent were functional.
