Global investment in renewable energy hits $2.5 trillion

Global investment in renewable from 2010 to 2019 is to hit  $2.6 trillion, with more Gigawatts of solar power capacity installed than any other generation technology, the Global trend in Renewable Energy Investment 2019 report has shown.

In the document released yesterday ahead of the UN Global Climate Action Summit, the investment was roughly said to have quadrupled (excluding large hydro) from 414 GW at the end of 2009 to over 1,650 GW when the decade closes at the end of this year.

Solar power will have drawn half—$1.3 trillion—of the total sum. This energy source alone would have grown from 25 GW to 663 GW at the close of the decade— enough to cater for the yearly electricity needs of about 100 million average homes in the United State.
