A young couple who were manhandled by Polaris Bank Security team of a mobile Policeman and an internal security officer yesterday for simply seeking to know how 97,000 disappeared from their account have been rescued by men of the Ikotun Police Station.
The dastardly act would have gone unnoticed by the police if a group of journalists covering that vicinity had not met the scene and quickly alerted the Divisional Police Officer(DPO) CSP John Onah who in his usual style mandated his men to quel the unnecessary mayhem in front of Polaris Bank,College Bus stop,Ikotun Lagos and invite the officers involved.
The Journalists on getting to the scene found the supposed wife of the ruffled customer wailing and shedding tears as she helpless watched her hubby being beaten from all sides by the vicious bank security men; after she was flung outside the gate by the same men.
Asked what was amiss she said,”My husband and I had misplaced our ATM card and when we checked the balance on our phone,we realised that the about a hundred thousand naira in the account was left just two thousand naira. Alarmed we dashed to the bank to establish the development and possible print and a statement to trace the history of the theft but instead of the Bank Staffers to promptly assist, they became unruly and began to beat us”.
At a time when institutions, particularly banks are pursuing global best practices,it is shocking how officials of a bank like Polaris can easily get violent to the point of beating and pushing out customers.
Efforts to talk to the bank’s Management proved abortive at the point of filing this report as they rushed to complete the day’s transaction.
