Police restrict protests in Abuja

Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has restricted protests within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the Unity Fountain in the Central Business District of Abuja.

The move is to ensure security of lives and properties, free flow of traffic and protection of businesses.

A statement by Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, said prospective protesters are, by the directive, requested to steer clear of all critical national infrastructure, especially the Three Arms Zone and other sensitive security areas.

The spokesman added that the restriction was sequel to the series of protests, especially the October 30, 2018 incidents in parts of the city, which brought economic activities to a standstill and inflicted untold hardship on motorists and the public.
