Muslim group tasks govt on food security

The Federal Government has been urged to tackle the prevailing insecurity for farmers to do their business and ensure food security nationwide.

National Amir of The Companion (a group of Muslim professionals), Alhaji Thabit Wale Sonaike, made the call yesterday in Lagos, regretting that community invasion, banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery were becoming rampant and threatening lives and property.

Sonaike, during a press conference on the forthcoming National Discourse, themed: “Food Security: Unleashing Nigeria’s Natural Potential For Self Sufficiency”, said there can never be food security without adequate security of lives and property.

He said millions of farmers had either been displaced or dispossessed of their farmlands.
