Adamawa State PDP flays senator Abbo’s assault on woman.

Serious concern has been expressed over the Adamawa State People’s Democratic Party (PDP) over representative of Adamawa North Senatorial district on its platform, Elisha Ishaku Abbo, who assaulted a nursing mother at a sex toyshop in Abuja.

Addressing journalists in Yola, state Chairman of the party, Abubakar Tahir Shehu said PDP, as a political group would not condone any acts capable of undermining the country’s constitution and abuse of human rights.

He said that the Adamawa state chapter of the PDP frown at the attitude displayed by Abbo and said that PDP in the state has disassociate it self from such unlawful and humiliating action.

Shehu, who said the party was awaiting its national secretariat to act before the Adamawa wing would decide on the next line of action, however, asked Nigerians and the family of the assaulted woman to forgive the senator.

“It is in public domain that the leadership of the Senate has constituted a panel to investigate the circumstances behind the incidence.

“We totally support the Senate’s action. However, we wish to call on the panel set up by the upper legislative chamber to show magnanimity and tamper justice with mercy. It should not be used as vendetta against Senator Abbo, as it is being demanded by some interest groups,” he said.

Shehu explained that misunderstandings may arise, but the way and manner in which they are handled and resolved mattered most, adding: “Men of honour and particularly elected legislative officers should not molest, assault or degrade any person, especially women, either in public or in private.

However “The party can not fathom any acceptable reason for Senator Abbo’s action. We, therefore, condemn and distance ourselves from this unruly behavior.”
