How insurgency denies children of immunisation in North East, by WHO

The destruction of health facilities and personnel by Boko Haram insurgents in North East has denied children of being immunised against cholera and other child-killer diseases.

Forty-six per cent of health facilities in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe are either fully or partially destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents.

This was disclosed at the weekend in a World Health Organisation (WHO) 2018 report released in Maiduguri.

“Only 30 per cent of health facilities in Borno State are fully functioning according to the WHO health resources availability mapping system (HeRAMS), with 45 per cent in Adamawa and 69 per cent in Yobe State.

“More than 3,000 doses of drug for seasonal malaria chemoprevention in Kukawa Local Council of Borno State were also destroyed,” the report stated.

The report further disclosed that in Borno State, the WHO HeRAMS assessment revealed that out of 755 health facilities, 292 (39 per cent) are completely damaged; 205 (27 per cent) are partially damaged.
