Human and Environmental Development Agenda (HEDA) and Concerned Nigerians Group have urged the President to investigate Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele’s leaked audio phone conversation, saying it would purge the apex bank of ‘bad eggs.’
HEDA said that if an investigation is conducted, it would reveal other hidden activities in the CBN, adding that the alleged stolen N500b would represent one of the biggest litmus tests for President Buhari’s corruption fight.
In a statement issued yesterday, Chairman of HEDA, Olanrewaju Suraj, said the audio was a unique opportunity to purge the CBN of bad eggs, adding that the worst thing would be for the President to ignore the issue.
Speaking, Convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, noted that the Eight Assembly should not fall short of expectation in denying Emefiele confirmation for a second-term at the CBN.
“This is because the Eight Senate had once shown its strong aversion for anti-corruption by refusing to confirm Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, due to allegations of corruption in a DSS report.
