The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called for deeper cooperation with the Nigerian Ports Authority to make trade easier and create more opportunities for businesses and investors.
The Director-General of ACCI, Agabaidu Jideani, made the call during the NPA Day held as part of the 21st Abuja International Trade Fair in Abuja.
Jideani said stronger engagement between the NPA and the private sector would help improve business conditions, strengthen supply chains and increase Nigeria’s participation in local and international trade.
He noted that the performance of Nigeria’s ports affects several sectors, including manufacturing, import and export, logistics, distribution and retail.
According to him, ACCI wants to create more opportunities for businesses in the Federal Capital Territory to connect with the maritime sector and the wider trade network.
He said the Chamber could provide platforms where businesses share their experiences and concerns with the NPA. In return, the NPA could use these platforms to provide businesses with information about port procedures, trade facilitation programmes and opportunities within the maritime sector.
Jideani also expressed the Chamber’s readiness to work more closely with the NPA through business forums, policy discussions, sensitisation programmes and capacity-building initiatives.
He said these engagements could help improve trade efficiency and strengthen economic connections across the country.
The ACCI DG described the Abuja International Trade Fair as an important platform for businesses, investors, government agencies and other stakeholders to discuss economic issues, establish partnerships and explore new markets.
He added that stronger cooperation between the NPA and the organised private sector would support better market access, stronger supply chains and a more favourable environment for trade and investment.
Jideani said ACCI looked forward to building a long-term partnership with the NPA that would support businesses, improve trade and contribute to Nigeria’s economic growth.
