Enhanced Maritime Security in Focus as AIG Maritime Okunade Ronke Nurat Receives LSSTF Boss Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan at Obalende Headquarters

In a move aimed at deepening inter-agency collaboration for the security of Lagos waterways and critical maritime assets, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, mspsp, has hosted the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, at the Command Headquarters in Obalende, Lagos.

Dr. Ogunsan, who was accompanied by members of his management team, was on his maiden official visit to the Maritime Police Command since assuming office. The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to explore areas of mutual support and to reinforce existing partnership in securing the maritime domain of Lagos State.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan lauded the leadership qualities and operational drive of AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, mspsp. He described the Maritime Police Command as a strategic component in the overall security architecture of Lagos State, given its mandate to police the waterways, ports, terminals, jetties and other maritime infrastructure that sustain commerce and economic growth.

He specifically referenced the Command’s swift response to emerging security concerns on the waterways and praised the AIG’s recent interventions along the Apapa Port Corridor, which he said have restored order and improved security along the vital economic axis.

According to the LSSTF Executive Secretary, the visit was not just a routine courtesy call but a practical demonstration of the Fund’s resolve to support security agencies operating in Lagos State with necessary logistics to enhance their effectiveness.

As part of its commitment, the LSSTF donated operational and protective equipment to the Command, including bulletproof vests, ballistic helmets, raincoats and boots. The gesture, he said, was to improve the safety, welfare and operational readiness of personnel deployed to challenging maritime environments.

Responding, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, mspsp, thanked Dr. Ogunsan and his team for the visit and for the consistent support the LSSTF has extended to security agencies in the state. She described the Fund as a critical partner in the shared responsibility of protecting lives, property, critical infrastructure and economic interests.

The AIG noted that effective policing in a complex and dynamic environment like Lagos cannot be achieved by the Police alone but requires sustained collaboration among security agencies, government, the private sector and other relevant stakeholders.

She further underscored the importance of maritime security to the nation’s economy, stressing that security on Lagos waterways directly impacts commerce, transportation, national revenue and investor confidence. She assured that the donated equipment would be judiciously deployed to enhance personnel safety and improve operational efficiency.

AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, fsi, mspsp, reaffirmed the commitment of the Maritime Police Command, in alignment with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, to uphold professionalism, accountability, intelligence-led policing and strategic stakeholder engagement. She assured the LSSTF and all partners that the Command remains resolute in securing the maritime domain, protecting critical infrastructure and contributing meaningfully to the overall security architecture of Lagos State and Nigeria at large.
