CUSTOMS ROLLS OUT 2026 FISCAL POLICY, TARIFF CHANGES TAKE EFFECT

The Nigeria Customs Service has commenced the implementation of the 2026 Fiscal Policy Measures and Tariff Amendments approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, in line with the Federal Government’s drive to strengthen fiscal discipline and boost economic competitiveness.
According to the Service, the new measures are designed to align Nigeria’s tariff regime with regional and global obligations, support domestic industries, facilitate legitimate trade, and improve revenue generation.
The 2026 amendments introduce key changes to the Customs and Excise Tariff framework. These include the Revised Import Adjustment Tax List and Revised National List for the ECOWAS Common External Tariff 2022–2027, Revised Import Prohibition List, Revised List of Goods Liable to Excise Duty, Revised Export Prohibition List, and the introduction of a Green Tax Surcharge on motor vehicles with engine capacities of 2000cc and above.
The NCS has directed importers, exporters, manufacturers, licensed customs agents and other stakeholders to familiarise themselves with the amended schedules and ensure full compliance with all fiscal and regulatory requirements.

The Service said effective implementation of the new policy will depend on the cooperation of all players in the trade value chain.
Reiterating its mandate, the NCS stated that it remains committed to trade facilitation, revenue collection and border security. It added that the 2026 measures are part of ongoing efforts to build a more competitive, transparent and sustainable economy that benefits businesses and Nigerians at large.
