The Executive Secretary/CEO of Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Akutah Pius, has signed the Council’s 2026 Sectorial Performance Bond in Lagos. The signing was witnessed by the Minister of Maritime and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, who emphasized the need for a result-oriented approach across all departments and agencies. The Minister stressed that the Performance Bonds are binding commitments and will be closely monitored.

Dr. Akutah highlighted the Council’s key achievements in 2025, including significant progress in the development of Inland Dry Ports (IDPs) nationwide, strengthening Nigeria’s transport and logistics infrastructure. The NSC has played a pivotal role in establishing IDPs, with support from the ministry. This initiative is expected to enhance the country’s trade facilitation and boost economic growth.

The Council’s interventions in resolving disputes between users and providers of port services have saved Nigerians billions of naira, improving efficiency and transparency in the maritime sector. Dr. Akutah noted that the NSC has been instrumental in promoting a more business-friendly environment, fostering growth and development in the sector.

The implementation of the Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) has digitized documentation processes, streamlining operations and enhancing service delivery. The shift to electronic documentation has reduced delays, increased productivity, and improved stakeholder satisfaction.

The ES/CEO restated the Council’s commitment to driving reforms and improving service standards in Nigeria’s port and logistics ecosystem. The 2026 Performance Bond signing reinforces the Council’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and performance management, aligning with national development priorities. The NSC aims to build on its achievements and continue to contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria’s maritime industry.
