Seme Customs Intercepts Cocaine, Seizes Smuggled Goods
By prince Benson Davies
The Seme Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has generated over N3.4 billion in revenue in less than a month, with exports in agricultural produce driving the surge. According to Comptroller Wale Adenuga, the Command’s revenue increased significantly from N743,698 million in February 2025 to N3,480 billion in February 2026 [1].
Adenuga attributed the growth to the seamless trade facilitation process adopted by the Command, which has boosted trade and confidence in the Seme-Krake corridor. He also credited the reduction in checkpoints along the Seme-Gbaji axis to collaboration with other security agencies, creating a safer environment for cross-border trade.
The Command has also made notable enforcement successes, including intercepting a Toyota Highlander vehicle with 22 packages of cocaine worth over N1 billion and seizing 1,000 bags of 50kg parboiled rice. Adenuga reiterated the Command’s commitment to suppressing smuggling and protecting Nigeria’s economic borders.
The achievement is part of the Command’s efforts to contribute to the Federal Government’s economic diversification drive and promote trade facilitation.
