Customs FOU ‘A’ Strengthens Partnerships to Combat Substance Abuse

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’, has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and other security agencies to tackle substance abuse in Nigeria.
During a courtesy visit to the NDLEA Lagos Strategic Command on July 2, 2025, Comptroller Mohammed Shuaibu emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation in addressing drug-related crimes. He noted that the visit aimed to deepen collaboration and consolidate existing relationships between the two agecies
Comptroller Shuaibu stressed that most crimes in Nigeria are drug-induced and pledged the Service’s commitment to protecting the country’s youth from the destructive influence of drugs. He appreciated the existing partnership with NDLEA and proposed further collaboration to secure the nation’s future.
NDLEA’s Lagos Strategic Command Commander, Abubakar Wali, welcomed the visit and praised Customs for its consistent support. He proposed joint operations, including joint patrols, to proactively tackle the trend of drug abuse.
Comptroller Shuaibu also visited the State Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 9 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Olawale Oyekola. He emphasized that these visits signify a unified front among security agencies in safeguarding national security.
