A New Chapter: President Tinubu Congratulates Adeniyi on WCO Council Chair

President Bola Tinubu has extended his warmest congratulations to Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, on his historic election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council. Adeniyi’s unanimous election marks a significant milestone for Nigeria, as he becomes the first Nigerian to lead the 73-year-old organisation, comprising 186 member countries.

The President commends Adeniyi’s leadership and dynamism, which have yielded impressive results, including increased revenue collections, improved stakeholder relations, and modernised operations. “I congratulate the Customs boss for bringing pride and validation to our country and the economic reforms,” President Tinubu said. “I urge the new Chairperson of the WCO to live up to the expectation of the WCO Council and even surpass it.”

President Tinubu expresses gratitude to the WCO Secretary-General and leaders for electing Adeniyi and assures that his government will support his leadership of the Council. As Chairperson, Adeniyi will provide strategic guidance to the WCO, promoting uniformity, modernisation, and global best practices among customs administrations.
