The Kano State Police Command has ordered immediate suspension of mining activities in Sumaila council area of the state.
Consequently, the force had deployed a special police unit to enforce compliance.
The Commissioner of Police, Mohammad Wakili, said the directive was to contain security threats.
A statement by the command’s spokesman, DSP Abdullahi Haruna, noted that the CP’s order was in strict “compliance with the Federal Government’s resolution to suspend mining activities in parts of the country due to security reasons.”
The Acting Inspector General of Police, Abubakar Mohammad, had on Monday, issued a vacation order to foreign miners in Zamfara following the killings by armed bandits in the state.
