The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) is set to deploy a $700 million investment from the Federal Government to boost its ongoing port modernisation project and the National Single Window (NSW) platform. The initiative aims to tackle operational challenges at Nigerian seaports and make them efficient and competitive.

Represented by the General Manager, Corporate and Strategic Communications Department, Mr. Ikechukwu OnyemaKara, NPA Managing Director Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho assured that the modernisation project will cover all seaports nationwide, starting with those in Lagos. The project is expected to address port congestion, delays in cargo delivery, and logistics challenges.

The NPA is also working to improve rail transportation, review the Truck Call-Up Management System, and ensure seamless implementation of the ETO initiative. The eastern ports are also part of the modernisation plan, with government investments focused on areas with returns on investment.

Dr. Dantsoho explained that the modernisation project and the deployment of the NSW platform will integrate all seaport documentation across various agencies, making Nigeria’s ports more attractive to investors. He added that the project will also enhance the country’s trade competitiveness and contribute to economic growth.

The NPA boss urged the media to play a proactive role in monitoring societal developments and avoid reports that could tarnish the country’s image. He expressed optimism that the NPA’s vision for the port industry would leave a lasting legacy for future generations.

The modernisation project is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to improve Nigeria’s infrastructure and boost economic growth. The project is expected to be completed in phases, with the first phase focusing on the Lagos ports.
