1.95 million new subscribers join Nigerian mobile networks

Telecommunications operators added new 1.95m new subscribers to telephony networks in the country between July and August this year.

Specifically, the figure moved from 174.9m in July to 176.8m in August, representing a 1.02 per cent increase in the country’s teledensity.

Subscribers’ statistics released yesterday by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for August indicated that the country’s broadband penetration also increase from 64.3 million in July to 67m in August, indicating an increase of 35 per cent penetration in the country.

Internet penetration showed that MTN, Airtel, Globacom and 9Mobile lost 95,903 subscribers within the period under review.

Airtel grew from 32.4m in July to 32.7m in August, Globacom (29.1m to 29.5m), while MTN fell from 52.3m to 51.6m and 9Mobile (8.8m to 8.6m) within the period under review.
